“Docutubes” as a way of engaging with the past

Posted on

Karel van Nieuwenhuyse, from Leuven University, tells us about his experience working with RETOPEA on “a project to promote religious peace and tolerance through history” through the making of “docutubes” with young people.

The topic selected was that of religious diversity. The team presented young people with source material to analyze (“clippings”) and gave them the tools they needed to make their own short films exploring these topics. At the end of the project, these videos were shared with their classmates and commented on. The goal was to “to use the insights gained to inform thinking about present-day peaceful religious co-existence.”

After their experience with this project, the team has made available a Badged Open Course for educators who would like to use the docutube methodology. This can be accessed here:  Young people and religion: creative learning with history | OpenLearn – Open University
