The monuments to the victims of the Civil War and franquismo in Euskadi (1936-2017). The recovery of history and memory of the republican victims of the Civil War has become in the last decade an inescapable dynamic in Euskadi. Among the numerous samples of this memorial recovery, driven by various political instances, human rights organizations, associations and descendents, the numerous monuments standing throughout the Basque territory take preeminent place. The setting-up of a monument is the result of a complex and laborious process throughout which opposing, sometimes conflicting, visions of history, memory, and the message one wishes to transmit appear. This book explores these processes.
