First General Conference

#events

This past March, we met in Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid, Spain, for our First General Conference. Representatives from all participating institutions were in attendance, presenting their previous work in order to best understand how to work together to further our shared goal of innovating on history education.

Our event began with a session on the memory of  Peter Seixas (1947-2022), creator of the Historical Thinking Project and colleague, and friend, of many of the members of MAKINGHISTORIES.

Four panels were organised around the main topics of our project: Integrating innovative theories and practices into historical culture and history and heritage education, Historical museums and re-enactments: Ways of making history for citizenship, The representation of troubled pasts in present-day societies: can history “bite”?, and Interaction among formal and informal history education practices. Then we began working in meetings with the purpose of organising our work together for the next years.

We had an eventful couple of days filled with intense work and great ideas to share.
