Doing Gender while Making Histories:
Actors, Visibilities and Practices

#news

From November 16 to 18, 2025, at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute, Braunschweig, Germany, the third and final conference of the “Making Histories” network project will focus on the actors, visibilities, and practices involved in the construction of history.

The first part will be devoted to discussing representations and negotiations of controversial or difficult pasts, both in formal and informal historical education.

The second part will specifically examine the construction of gender in histories mediated in different ways, such as in museums, schools, or digital media.

This section will open a space for dialogue with leading figures in the field of Gender Studies and History, and will offer an opportunity to reflect on gender roles in circulating images of the past, the omission of certain historical actors in hegemonic historical discourses, and practices of interaction with these discourses in different spaces and contexts.

The panels will raise the questions: what will we see (differently) and what knowledge can be gained if we incorporate a gender perspective?

Below is the program of activities.
